Why do I receive a message indicating that the cache could not be saved?

Symptom

When running a macro that includes a step to save the workbook, the following message may be displayed:

The cache cannot be saved.  Please contact technical support for assistance.

Would you like to email this information to the support department at Event 1 Software?

<Yes> <No>

When caching is being used, the results from Office Connector worksheet functions are stored in a hidden worksheet.  If this hidden worksheet does not exist then it is created when the workbook is saved.  The above error occurs when the Office Connector tries to create the hidden worksheet as the workbook is being saved and the save operation is being carried out by a macro.  This limitation is a known issue in Microsoft Excel and is corrected with Excel 2007.

This issue may be encountered with version 2.01.0041 even if caching is not enabled for the workbook.

Resolution

Save the workbook while caching is enabled.

1.       Enable the cache

a.       Click Edit Preferences on the Office Connector toolbar

b.      Under This Workbook, click Write-only

c.       Click OK

2.       Save the workbook using the Excel file menu (not a macro).  This will result in the creation of the hidden cache worksheet.

3.       If caching was not originally enabled, disable it now

a.       Click Edit Preferences on the Office Connector toolbar

b.      Click None

c.       Click OK

d.      Save the workbook again.
