Why is Office Connector operating in Viewer Mode?

Background
This article describes the technical conditions that will lead to Office Connector operating in viewer mode. Click here for information about viewer mode.

Details
Office Connector will enter viewer mode on a given workstation when any of the following conditions exist:

  • Event 1 System Folder is not valid
The Event 1 System Folder is the folder where license information and other files (such as report designs) are located. For network users, this would be a shared network folder that each workstation would access. If this folder is not valid or can't be accessed, Office Connector will operate in viewer mode. The Event 1 System Folder is identified in the Windows system registry under the following key on 32-bit operating systems: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Event 1 : System Directory. With 64-bit operating systems, the registry key would be: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Event 1 : System Directory. If the path identified in this registry key is not valid, you should not manually change it. Instead, re-install Office Connector and specify the correct path during the installation.

  • Sage 300 CRE System Directory is not valid
The Sage 300 CRE System Directory is established when Sage 300 CRE is installed. If this directory has not been established (because Sage 300 CRE has not been installed), is not valid, or is not accessible, Office Connector will operate in viewer mode. The path to the Sage 300 CRE System Directory is found in the Windows system registry under the following key on 32-bit operating systems: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Timberline\General : System Directory. With 64-bit operating systems, the registry key would be: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Timberline\General : System Directory. If this registry key is missing or contains an invalid path, do not manually change it. Instead, contact your Sage 300 CRE support representative for assistance.
